Blackberry Jones

Hailing from the nations capital, BBJ came into his own early. Raised on the art of noise, his mother, while carrying him in the wound, sang in nightclubs in the mid-seventies. “While I was on break, the DJ would play, and I would hold my tummy to the speakers, so you could feel the bass”

Thus, the mind was fed before the body, and his hunger grew tremendously as time passed. Black was introduced to hiphop for the first time by his uncle “Tex”, who would be found in the front yard with a walkman, SugarHill Gang, Run DMC, T-Larock and the liking, became ritual to the ear.

However, it was in the early 80’s, with routine trips to Illadelph to see the artistic side of his family, that would spawn what some would regard to as genius, however, Black simply refers to it as a humble passion.

This lead to collabs and friendships with artists all up and down the board, from JR and Scienz of Life in the mid-90’s, to Ahseru of Unspoken Heard (BlackLincolns), to Johnathan “Baby Jay” Lighty of Violator management, which lead to the production “Part 2”, on Petey Pablo's second LP. Aside from that, BBJ’s track record is pretty much the subject of urban legend. With Shaman Work behind his effort, this should be a memorable experience. BlackBerry will introduce what he defines as “The BlackLincoln Sound”

To define him as one thing: an emcee, vocalist, producer, hiphop, R&B, or neo-soul, would be the best way to insult BBJ.

Consider him simply as an artist, a communicator, using sound to create images, as defined by BBJ, “The music, is the canvas, the colors .The words, are the lines drawn, the strokes, that define the image. In that light,.. I grew out of crayons before I even touched them.”
