K Banger

One of the most common concerns amongst Hip Hop fans today is “The State of Hip Hop”. That can mean a lot of things: lame subject matter, hollow beats, repetitive images, or just plain lack of creativity and originality. Whatever the cause for this concern, K Banger – musician, producer, lyricist, and community participant through education, chooses to stay his lane in his musical expression – whatever that may be, and whether you like it or not.

“I am not the feel-good, conscience, breath-of-fresh-air rapper,” says K Banger. He further explains, “I’m not the coke dealer, pimp-hustler either.”

“I am that I am, period.”

K Banger hails from Perth Amboy New Jersey, born from Trinidadian immigrants with musical background. At first, his only musical outlet was DJ Red Alert, Mr. Magic, Marley Marl, and early 80’s MTV videos. It is this foundation that has contributed to K’s raw Hip Hop essence and eclectic ear for a wide range of production, from pop to dance music.

Due to a lack of music education at catholic school, K began writing in the 4th grade and rhyming in the fifth grade. By the 6th grade, K was djaying at sweet sixteen’s, and performed live for the first time before his freshman year in high school. K would open for classic acts like Nice and Smooth and meet legends like Big L not to long after.

After years of blessing cyphas, battles, and his first guest appearance on Capitol Records, K Banger expanded his horizons by studying classical piano & latin percussion instruments, while playing keyboard (and later, drum set) for local carribean bands. This then led to hosting open mic and poetry sessions around town with live band members, The Balance Project.

Through close friend, DJ, and musical peer Kane U$A, K linked with underground pioneers Scienz of Life and Big Juss of Company Flow. By selling Final Call newspapers & bean pies to those in session, K landed a spot on SOL’s “Book of the Dead” album. That experience exposed K to a whole new audience in New York and abroad using niche marketing and DYI promotion. K would later release Stillborn Lives independently, gaining loyal following and landing a spot on the Vans Warped Tour for 2 years in a row. Nowadays, K Banger is bigger than Hip Hop; besides being recruited by long time friend, Hip Hop veteran and Shaman Work Recordings president Lil Sci aka John Robinson, K acts as an audio producer and voice over talent for Black Entertainment Television, following extensive experience in the field of early childhood education. K also contributed to the Citizen Schools Program by creating the “Hiphop Culture vs. The Music Business” apprenticeship, which was displayed at the Citizen Schools headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts. K Banger’s cosmic elixir of entertainment and education provides a vibe that is universal, captivating, and inspiring.
